Uncle Ammroth's Guide for New Players

Welcome to the Realm! Here are the answers to frequently asked questions.

What do I do first?

Eat the bread and drink the water you started with by bringing up your Inventory, then clicking on those items. You can start taking damage if you get too hungry or thirsty. It doesn't happen often, but keep an eye out for that. If you don't have the option to eat or drink, you are probably at a teleporter. Move to the next "room" and you will be able to eat and drink.

OK, what's next?

If you have gotten assistance in the form of some gold, you'll probably want to get some armor and a weapon first. Armor and weapons are made of several different materials in the Realm. The best that you can buy for weapons is Tempered Steel; the best you can buy for armor is Mythril. Mythril armor is available at Murias 1L, and Tempered Steel weapons are available at Asgard 1D 1R, inside and 1L.

What do those numbers and letters mean?

Directions are always given in relation to the teleport gate in a town. The town name is given, plus the number of screens up, down, left, or right from the teleport for that town. So, Murias 1L means you start at the Murias teleport, then go one screen left.

How do I teleport?

Every teleport has an NPC (Non-Player Character) Gatekeeper. They are usually in a little window in some building. Click on the Gatekeeper, then on Teleport. Select the town where you want to go on the map, and poof! The Gatekeeper can also tell you where to find shops in the town so you can buy potions or whatever.

How do I remember all this stuff?

If you're lost or need help, click on the Gossip tab, and select Channel 4. Lots of helpful, friendly people are there to give you advice.

OK, what did you say about armor and weapons? What should I get?

That depends on what character class you are. For adventurers and warriors, the usual starting armor is mythril, and the weapon is a 2-handed sword or a mace. For thieves and wizards, troll leather armor and a throwing dagger are standard equipment. Troll leather armor is available at EL (East Leinster, where you started) 2D. Make sure you Equip with the new armor and weapon.

Can I use this weapon?

To see what skills you have, click on your toon, and select "Look At". Then select Skills. Green numbers show that you have skill in that area; the maximum skill is 5. Gray areas mean you don't have that skill. You don't start out knowing how to use a 2-handed sword or a throwing dagger, so you have to learn how.

How do I learn?

For any skill, you have to buy the skill book for the appropriate level, then learn from the book. Each book takes some number of Build Points to learn that skill. You start out with 3 Build Points, and get one for each level. All first-level skills cost 1 to learn, and all second-level skills cost 3 to learn. See the directions to shops to find where to get the skill books.

But I'm a wizard, how do I get spells?

For wizards, it's a two-step process. First you get the level, then you can learn spells at that level. So, you need the skill, then the spells. Spells can be bought at magic shops.

OK, I have my armor and weapon, now what?

The first place to go hunting is Ratling Run, just to the right of East Leinster. When the rats and bats get too easy for you, work your way around the Leinsters counterclockwise.

Where can I find maps?

Go to Burke's Realm.

How do I stay alive when fighting?

Eventually, you'll have spells for healing. For now, use potions of invulnerability to reduce the damage you take, and potions of healing or greater healing to heal yourself. You can get these potions at any magic shop.

Now you've read enough! Go out and hunt some rats and bats!
